Slow Stitching

I'm revisiting a kit I bought on an online selling site. It is an old 1984 kit called Thirteen Colonies Album Quilt Kit.

I have finished four blocks, grapes,

 grain

and two wreathes,

now onto another wreath.

 happy slow stitching.

    1. Thank you, it was my first foray into applique and I fell in love. I am learning so much from quilters on line, the Baltimore Applique Society and a lovely short course with Shirley Bloomfield.

  3. I was gifted this kit from a woman in my church. I have been working on it for 10 years! (in those 10 years I have been having the last of my 4 kids and homeschooling all of them--so this project has not always been on the front burner.) I have finished 16 blocks so far. I work one state block and then one wreath. It is neat to see someone else working on this project as well. I will continue to follow your progress.

    1. I am so pleased someone else has this kit, the person I bought it from had only done one wreath and the grape block. I am hoping to progress more quickly now I have learnt better techniques and lots of practice.

  4. Those are pretty blocks! I'd like to learn and practice more applique this year, too. Do you use freezer paper to make your shapes?

  5. Thank you, I use freezer paper on the back of each piece, I tack the seam allowance under and when I've nearly appliqued all round the shape onto the backing fabric, I unpick the tacking all round and on the unsewn edge flip out the freezer paper using a pair of tweezers usually. Then finish appliqueing the edge. I followed an online course from Mimi Dietrich which was brilliant.

    1. Thank you, it was the beginning of my love for applique. I had a break from it when I went to a class and when I did an online class, both have improved my skills.
